For one island, Phuket offers a staggering range of beaches and options for holidaymakers and even offshore there are so many more nearby islands to indulge in too. Depending on the holiday you want, Phuket can cater for it and this is why it has become one of the best known destinations in the world.

For a bustling, entertainment orientated visit there is no where better to base yourself than Patong. With a renowned nightlife, a nice beach and any facilities or shops you could ever need it is in a league of its own on the island. For a similar but less in-your-face trip its worth trying the other West coast beaches such as Karon and Kata. But all of these are among Phuket's better known beaches and if it is seclusion, authenticity and a laidback atmosphere you desire there are plenty of other places to choose from. Up at the northern end of the island, not too far from the airport, are some of Phuket's most deserted stretches of sand. Mai Khao and Nai Yang have both yet to be fully invaded by the major hotel chains and they still keep their natural beauty intact.

Budget Phuket hotels can be found across the island but for the best luxury Phuket resorts head to some of the smaller coves and offshore islands at the southern tip. Rawai beach is known for its stunning hotels and the easily accessible nearby islands such as Koh Lon, Racha Island and Coral Island.
